Inserting a Column in Excel

To insert a column in Excel, select the column where you want the new column to appear. If you want to insert multiple columns next to each other, click and drag across the number of column headings for the number of columns you wish to insert, starting at the column where the first added column should appear. You can also hold down the Ctrl key and click column headings where you want new columns to appear.

Right-click on the selected column name, and then left-click on Insert. A new column will be inserted and the contents shifted to the right for however many columns are inserted.

Inserting a Row in Excel

To insert a row, select the row where you want the new column to appear. If you want to insert multiple rows next to each other, click and drag across the number of row headings for the number of rows you wish to insert, starting at the row where the first added row should appear. You can also hold down the Ctrl key and click row headings where you want new columns to appear.

Right-click on the selected row name, and then left-click on Insert. A new row will be inserted and the contents shifted down for however many rows are inserted.
